The Toyota Land Cruiser for 2024

Though Toyota said the Land Cruiser was gone forever, we were wrong. Just kidding. Baby returns as off-road champ. The boxy Cruiser shares a foundation with the redesigned Lexus GX and offers 326 horsepower from a turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid.

Lexus utilizes 349-hp, 3.4-liter turbo V-6. This model LC competes with the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler as a midsize SUV, unlike the previous generation. The Toyota Sequoia enters the full-size SUV market using this method. The Land Cruiser has two rows of five-person seating and advanced

entertainment systems. Most Land Cruiser owners use it as a weekend toy and weekday commuter, thus Toyota incorporates powerful driver-assistance technology. 4WD Land Cruisers have low-range gearing and a locking differential for off-roading. A new Land Cruiser will hit dealerships in spring 2024.

The boxy 2024 Land Cruiser rides on a completely updated base. Hybrid power and a smaller size are better for confronting Ford and Jeep off-roaders.

Toyota chose a turbocharged hybrid powertrain over a naturally aspirated V-8 engine for this upgraded Land Cruiser. Two electric motors help a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder produce 326 horsepower. This configuration is identical to the Toyota Tacoma's powertrain.

Despite not having full EPA ratings, Toyota believes the Land Cruiser will get 23 mpg combined. This is far better than the old V-8 model. When we can, we'll test the Land Cruiser on our 75-mph highway fuel economy route and update this post.

Toyota's great infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto comes standard on all Land Cruisers, although the base 1958 grade has a tiny 8.0-inch touchscreen. All other grades have massive 12.3-inch touchscreens. USB-C charging ports and a wireless smartphone charging pad are standard, but Wi-Fi and a 14-speaker JBL music system cost extra.

As with other Toyotas, the Land Cruiser has standard driver-assistance features. Automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking features in Toyota Safety Sense 3.0.
