Tyron Smith's deal could be worth $20 million, but it will be pricey.

After thirteen years with the Cowboys, Tyron Smith has decided to go. He has the potential to earn a substantial amount in his fourteenth year—up to $20 million, according to reports. However, this will only be possible if he meets several requirements.

In his one-year contract with the Jets, Smith is reportedly only guaranteed $6.5 million, according to a source within the league. In order to unlock the most of his pay, he will need to play frequently and be accessible to play.

So that he has a chance at the maximum package, for instance, he must play in at least 90% of the offensive snaps every game.

He last missed less than three complete games in 2015, so it's been at least that long since he did it.

The Jets were taken aback that he accepted the offer, in part because of the creative nature of the contract. At the end of the first week of free agency, the 33-year-old tackle didn't seem to have found anything better.

The trade is fantastic for the Jets. He will increase his earnings by playing more. They are safeguarded in case he is unable to complete a significant portion of the season.

He was hurt in 2022 and didn't play in 13 games during the regular season. During the 2020 season, he sat out fourteen games. Thus, the Jets were justified in their defensive stance. Smith now has a solid financial reason to go back to 2015.
